First Run

When you start Reddcoin Core for the first time, it will ask you where to store the data. This data consists of the blockchain data, the wallet file and other necessary files to run Reddcoin Core. It is recommended to use the default setting of “Use the default data directory”.
Screenshot

The selected folder is your Reddcoin data folder.

If you want to open your Reddcoin data folder later, you can do so by opening %AppData%\Reddcoin. To open this location, you use Windows File Explorer or Run.‌

Next step: bootstrapping

Before you can fully use Reddcoin Core, you need to sync the blockchain.

Syncing a blockchain is always a time consuming and painful process. Fortunately, with the Reddcoin Core Bootstrap, you can speed up the syncing of the blockchain on a fresh install of Reddcoin Core.

This process is not mandatory, but will cut synchronization times down dramatically when used.

See instructions here: Bootstrapping.

Always make a back up of your wallet first if you have any Reddcoins in your wallet. Do not skip this step.

You can read here how to make a back up.

Step 2: Check if most recent version of Reddcoin Core is installed

It is important to use/run the most recent version of Reddcoin Core, as the most recent version will have bugfixes and improvements.

Currently, the most recent version is: Reddcoin Core v3.10.4.

To check the version of your Reddcoin Core, follow these steps:

Step 3: Find your Reddcoin data directory

Your Reddcoin data directory contains important files used by Reddcoin Core, like the Reddcoin blockchain files and the wallet file. You need to know where your Reddcoin data directory is located, as you need to copy some files into this directory in the next steps.

Step 4: Download and extract the bootstrap file

You need to download the bootstrap file, and place the contents in your Reddcoin data.

Step 5: Finish the sync

Backing up wallet

One of the important steps to secure your wallet by making a backup. A backup prevents losing RDDs in case of (accidental) data loss and corruption. With a backup, you can always restore your RDDs.

It is recommended to make regular backups.‌ Make new backups after creating a new receiving address and creating a new transaction.

There are two methods to backup, make sure to at least backup your wallet.dat (method 1).

Method 1: Backup wallet.dat

A wallet.dat backup contains all your Reddcoin addresses and private keys.

If your wallet is encrypted (has a password), the backup file will also be encrypted. Before you can make a transaction, you need to enter the password; so make sure you also have a backup of your password. If you lose or forget your password, you will not be able to access the RDDs in your wallet.

Instructions

Method 2: Backup your private keys

Every Reddcoin address has a private key. This private key is the prove that you are the owner of that specific Reddcoin address.

In case you lose your wallet.dat backup or your backup gets corrupted, you still can import your private keys later when needed. So, backing up your private keys is recommended.

Every Reddcoin address has its own private key. When making a backup of your private keys, make sure to backup the private keys of all your receiving addresses!

Instructions

If you have made any transactions (sent Reddcoin), you also might have hidden 'change addresses'.
To get the private keys of these change addresses, follow the steps below.

You can write down your private key on a piece of paper, print it or copy and save it in a document. Make sure you save it somewhere only you can access it. If someone else gains access to your private keys, they can also access your coins!

Users that have been using an old version of Reddcoin Core – version 1 and 2 – can experience issues with their wallets. As the blockchain is a fundamental part of cryptocurrency, the blockchain data of Reddcoin Core should be correct and valid.

With the steps taken in this wallet, your blockchain data will be deleted and downloaded again. This will make sure your Reddcoin Core blockchain data is correct and valid.

By cleaning up your wallet, you will remove any transaction that is not confirmed on the Reddcoin blockchain. These are transactions with issues, like transaction are conflicted, or transactions that are not getting confirmed and stay unconfirmed.

As a result, your wallet will only have confimed transactions, in line with the Reddcoin blockchain.

If you had created a new transaction that was stuck (not getting confirmed), the transaction will be removed, and the amount will be placed back into your wallet.

Step 2: Find your Reddcoin Core installation Folder

You need to start Reddcoin Core with the zapwallet argument. To do this, you first need to find your Reddcoin installation folder.

Continue to step 3 below.

Step 3: Start Reddcoin Core with -zapwallettxes=1

You have found your Reddcoin data folder and have it open in Windows File explorer.

(Optional) Step 4: Create a new transaction, with a small transaction fee

Any stuck transaction that was not getting confirmed is also removed from your wallet. The amount of the transactions are placed back in your wallet (check your balance).

You can create the transaction again, and a small transaction fee (0.1 RDD) to make sure the transaction gets confirmed quickly. Read more here: Adding transaction fees to a transaction.

To make sure your transaction gets confirmed quickly, I recommend adding a small transaction fee. Below are the settings I use to add a transaction fee of 0.1 RDD.

Step 1: Make the transaction fee settings visible

In the Send window, click on the 'Choose…' button to make the transaction fee settings visible.

Step 2: Adjust transaction fee settings

Apply the following settings in Transaction Fee:

With these settings, the transaction fee is set to be 0.1 RDD.

Step 3: Create a new transaction

You now have entered the transaction details and selected 0.1 RDD as transaction fee.
Click on the 'Send' button on the bottom left to make the transaction.

A new window will pop-up, showing the amount that you have selected and the transaction fee (in red). As you can see, the transaction fee is added on top of the selected amount.
Confirm that you want to create the transaction by clicking on 'Yes'.
Your transaction will start getting confirmed within a minute.

(Optional) Step 4: Minimize the transaction fee settings

After you have applied your custom settings for transaction fees, you can hide the settings by clicking on 'Minimize'.
Screenshot

When minimized, Reddcoin Core will tell you that the transaction fee is set at 1 RDD.
This is incorrect, the actual transaction fee is set at 0.1 RDD (as you will see in the confirmation pop-up before sending the transaction).
